Crackington Quay Wins Best Layout

Crackington Quay was awarded the Railway Modeller Shield for the best layout in show at FebEx2014. Bob Treacher, proprieter of Alton Model Centre, judged the shows layouts on behalf of Peco Publications.

The layout was built in 2004 by Roy Parkes and represents an unspoiled cove on the North Devon/Cornwall border. It is built to 7mm/ft scale on 16.5mm gauge track to represent a 2ft 3in line. On the quay there is a fish processing factory that specialises in pilchard processing. At the other end of the quay is a small marine engineering works that services the local fishing fleet.

The steam loco kits are all from the Springside range. The coaches are PECO kits and the freight stock is a mixture of Chivers and Avalon kits. The layout has been featured in Railway Modeller and Narrow Lines.
